Buddha is designed after Kamakura's Great Buddha bronze statue at the Kotokuin Temple in Japan. The original statue, made in 1252, was inside a temple that since washed away from a tidal wave in 1495. It now sits in the open since.

The pose of this statue is usual way of meditating by the Japanese, Buddhists and followers of the Zen thought.

This Japanese statue lies in the Negoroji Temple (The Temple of the Fragrant Root) in Kagawa Prefecture, Japan.
