Home | Weathervanes
Weathervanes were one of the first weather instruments to detect wind direction. The Tower of Winds topped with Triton is one of the earliest weathervanes, ca. 48 B.C. In the simplest design, a weathervane is a flat piece that wind blows against to show wind direction. The weathervane must be balanced: the part forward of the axis must have the correct counterbalance behind. Today, weathervanes are a piece of moving architectural decor that has a purpose.
