Weathervane Cupolas
A weathervane should be 2-3" long for each foot of height of a one-story building. If the building is a 1-story that is 20-ft high to the top of the roof line, then the weathervane should be about 2 x 20 = 40" to 3 x 20 = 60" tall. Deviations from this rule of thumb consider the setting. E.g., a home on a hilltop may call for a taller weathervane to stand out in silhouette. A cupola helps to create a taller effect for your the weathervane. Cupolas are also used as a decorative accent or to increase the visual height of a home, barn or other out building.
