Pumps are the essential of a beautiful water fountain display. Submersible pumps are specified by the gallons per hour (gph) output at the pump. High-flow pumps will be measured by gallons per minute (gpm) at the pump. If you have to push the water much farther, then the flow will be less depending on how far the water feature outlet is from the pump. See the pump chart on the "read more" for details.

Most pumps have outlets that are 1/4", 3/8" or 1/2". Larger pumps can have up to an inch or larger outlet. Ensure to match the diameters from the pump to the outlet for an efficient flow. A pre-filter will filter out plant and other debris that can get into your fountain water. Some pumps have pre-filters built into them but most do not. A filter reduces the work your pump has to do and extends its life. Tricker's Water Gardens has pump filters of different sorts. A pump sock is the easiest to fit to any pump.
